Diamond studs are a simple shape with plenty of room for personal choice. The diamond outline, setting, metal and fastening all affect how a pair looks and feels. This guide uses examples from the Oscar & Co collection to help you compare the details that matter.

Understand carat weight per pair
Total carat weight for a pair describes the combined diamonds in both earrings. It does not usually mean that each earring contains that weight. Our 1.60ct total round studs, for example, list two 0.80ct diamonds.
| Pair | Listed diamond weight | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Round studs, 1.60ct total | Two 0.80ct diamonds | Six-claw baskets; butterfly push backs; made-to-order timing |
| Round studs, 2.05ct total | Approximately 2.05ct across the pair | 9K white gold; butterfly backs; IGI jewellery report |
| Princess-cut studs, 2.07ct total | See the listing for the pair’s specification | Compare the square outline and setting with the round styles |
Carat is a measure of weight, not diameter. Compare the diamond measurements where supplied, along with photographs and the setting. If you need a particular face-up size, ask us to confirm it for the pair you are considering.

Choose your shape and setting
Round studs give a familiar circular outline. Princess-cut studs have a square outline, while flower, heart and halo designs bring the setting into the overall shape. Browse our stud collection to compare the silhouettes.
Look at the side and back as well as the front. The basket and claws are part of the design, and the fastening matters for comfort. Our 1.60ct round pair lists six-claw basket settings with butterfly push backs; check other listings separately rather than assuming the same construction.
Compare metal and certification
Check the selected metal and its purity, then compare the available options on the product page. The collection includes white gold and platinum stud designs; availability and configurations vary by piece.
Read the certification section carefully. Our 2.05ct total round pair lists an IGI jewellery report, while the 1.60ct pair lists IGI certification for its two 0.80ct diamonds. Confirm which stones or finished jewellery a report covers if you need that information before purchasing.
Buying studs as a gift
Think about the recipient’s preferred metal colour, the shapes they already wear and whether they enjoy discreet or more prominent earrings. Confirm that the fastening suits them. If the gift is for a particular date, check in-stock or made-to-order status and ask us about the timing.
Diamond stud questions
Does 2ct total mean a 2ct diamond in each ear?
No. A total weight describes the combined diamonds in the pair. Read the product details for the weight of each stone where supplied.
How should I look after the settings and backs?
Follow our jewellery care guide. Check that the backs and settings feel secure before wearing; if a stone moves or a fastening becomes unreliable, stop wearing the earrings and contact us for advice.
